The Not-So-Beautiful Side of Makeup
Some of us start to wear makeup as early as the age of 11. We can be inspired by celebrities, friends, trends, and even family. We love trends like siren eyes, reverse winged liner, overlining lips to look bigger, etc. Many common products used are eyeliner, blush, lip liner, eyeshadow, mascara, and etc. However, do we really know what we are putting onto our skin?
Many products such as eyeshadow, bronzer, blush, setting powder, and so forth, have talc in them. You might be thinking, “What’s the issue with talc?” Talc can cause cancer such as ovarian, uterine, and mesothelioma. Not only cancer, but talc can also contain asbestos. Asbestos can not only make you sick, but over time, just by inhaling it or putting it on your skin can lead to clubbed fingers, lung cancer, collapse of the lung, etc.
Makeup still can be fun to wear. Just be cautious of what your makeup contains. Here are a few helpful apps:
- EWG Skin Deep. This app lists some high hazard beauty products.
- Detox Me is another app that you can check for toxic products.
It is not only for makeup, it can be products you use in your daily life. Another alternative if you are really concerned about products containing talc is to shop for a makeup brand that is talc free. In the end you don’t have to stop wearing your smokey eyes, cat eyes, or graphic liner, just be aware of what you are putting onto your skin.
