Everyone knows the homecoming dance is a place to let loose and enjoy the night with your friends but few know the true significance of what homecoming represents. Homecoming is the time of honored traditions and combined sports It’s about celebrating school pride and bringing the community together. It’s also considered a “welcome home“ celebration for school alumni and the beginning of the Freshmen’s journey. Homecoming has an array of activates that lead up to homecoming that encourages school spirit and participation. Each day is filled with fun theme days to keep the excitement high, this can include themed dress-up days, pep rallies, parades, and other events. The football game and dance are the most notable part of homecoming the football games brings together alumni, students and the community for a night of fun. The day of the homecoming dance consists of a students getting dressed for a night of fun with games, photobooths and dancing. Homecoming also includes the court which usually consists of students elected by their peers to represent their grade as King or Queen of the dance.
Palmers homecoming has many of our own unique traditions that students can participate in throughout the week such as the car caravan where students can decorate their cars and drive to the game escorting the court. The bonfire is also a place where students gather to take pictures and roast smores. These traditions have changed in many ways since they’ve started back then Palmer only elected queens and princesses for the court, nominated by the football players. The bonfire included students in ceremonial clothing dancing while the Terror legend was being told and students rode in a parade to attend the dance. Palmers traditions are a huge part of the school and school spirit and Palmer is proud of our growing traditions!
