Many students are starting to feel the first signs of the fall and winter months with the cold air and earlier nights. For some of us staying committed to school and putting in all of our effort during this time of year becomes a challenge. So how do you stay persistent and motivated? First and foremost, motivating yourself is hard but getting and staying motivated is a skill that will pay off in the long run and can be used in any circumstances. Whether you’re expected to do something because you want to or because you have to. If you’re unmotivated, you probably feel behind and overwhelmed. And the last thing you want to do is complete a task or do your chores. And that’s ok. Even the most driven people have their off days. Remember that motivation is sporadic and the things that motivate one person may not motivate another.
However the best place to start to find your motivation is to find your “why?” to understand why your trying to achieve what you are and what purpose it has to you. Define specific, achievable goals that will support your purpose. To have a routine will help you build consistency and discipline so your tasks are manageable. You will inevitably lose motivation at some point, this is completely normal, so don’t give up! No one can be “on” 100% of the time. Track your progress, have your own system for daily tasks and consult it regularly this can help you to keep moving towards being more motivated even if you’ve lost it. It’s virtually impossible to be successful in your studies if you are perpetually stressed out. So remember no matter what the purpose of your motivation is if you do it for anybody or anything it should be for you! Don’t forget that you’re a priority too!
