On September 11th, 2001 in New York city a tragedy happened. This event
caused the deaths of over 2,000 people and left over 6,000 injured. People from all over
the world were stunned and shocked about the mishaps of these events. In that year,
four planes were hijacked by people of al Qaeda with leader Osama Bin Laden crashing
into the World Trade center in hopes of revenge on the United States.
Many citizens who witnessed this occurrence happened to just be going on with
their day, oblivious to what was coming within the next few hours. I asked my mom if it
happened within her time period and if so, what were her feelings about it.
“I saw it on the news and when I saw it I was shocked because I didn’t possibly think
that could happen, especially to us and one of the main buildings that made our
country.”
Osama Bin Laden wanted to attack the U.S because of its support on Israel and
just the presence of the U.S. within the sacred Islamic lands. Hence being one of his
motives for attacking the U.S.
There are many reasons as to why people still remember this event. It can be
because of the big impact it had on the world, the society, or just personally with
oneself. This incident had an influence on mental health in young people and especially
the adults and the ones who were only a few feet away.
“As a young adult at that time and with 2 kids it really affected my health. I wasn’t in
New York when it happened. I didn’t see it head on but it still impacted me and this is
something one shouldn’t joke about.”
At that moment, many questions come to mind such as, what were people
thinking? How were they reacting in their brain? What were they telling themselves?
“I was mostly thinking about how the others were oblivious inside the World Trade
Center and how they didnt think they were gonna lose their lives like that. I wondered
how their families felt finding out not just about the crash but about their loved ones. I’m
still lucky to this day that I wasn’t there. I don’t know what my kids would have done.”
After 23 years, all the commotion on this day is all cherished by people all over
the world because of how big the event is, it is most likely to be carried on through many
generations and impact others just by hearing the horrible occurrence.
