Have you chosen your Personal Project??
Among the sophomores a new assignment has been chosen for them to carry out and create themselves. These projects have taken a good one to two months of planning what they want to pursue with this and have had time to go over things with their supervisor.
On Schoology, there was a class put onto Sophomores pages, filled with different assignments and files to keep track of the progress of their projects. It was a good starter to help them get into what they want to do and have a thought process plan of steps they need to accomplish. The documents also have students take action on researching, planning scenarios, and what is best of interest for them.
The director of this ride for students, IBMYP Coordinator, Ms. Sahlus explains, “The overall goal is to have students engage in this opportunity to learn something new or expand on their existing interests, to create something that they can take pride in, and to reflect on that experience.”
It’s obvious now for the students that maybe didn’t want to do this or found no purpose, that it’s a great opportunity to learn something new and really get into expanding your interests during high school. Sophomore year is a great time to start focusing on what you want to become of yourself and have that peak of interest be something to look forward to. It’s also the year where you really get to make an impression of yourself to those around you after being awkward last year.
Sahlus continues, “I think people will benefit differently from their projects, because it is personal to each student. The more a student engages in the learning and creation of the project, the more they can get out of it. Yet, I think students benefit the most from the opportunity of choice. Students get the rare opportunity to choose anything that they want to explore and have the time, space and support to dive into it.”
This independent project really captures a personal opportunity of choice in what you want to expand on in your earning experience this year in high school. The Personal Project could also be a good way to get into what you see fit for yourself and maybe take on this impression for the rest of your life.
Sahlus also expanded on the Personal Project. “So many of us spend so much time watching others engaging in something we find interesting, but this is a chance for you all to create something and share it. For example, if you like watching people make crochet animals, now is your chance to try it out and make it your own! Even if you discover that crocheting isn’t your passion, then you will still gain the skills that come from trying something new.”
The Personal Project given to Sophomores of Palmer High School is a real opportunity to have. It benefits students differently, but overall benefits them with the chance to learn and engage in their creativity of interest. The goal of this project is to have students learn something new and create something they are proud to call their own.
