Many high school students’ parents leave it to them to make their own money, but what can you even do? That’s what many high school students question when they need some money, but actually, there are many opportunities to make quick cash!
First of all, if you are an artsy person, you could sell your merchandise online! You could sell homemade stickers, keychains, figurines, clothing, and even slime on websites like Esty or Amazon. The best part of this is you keep making money even without making new things. If you are a minor you will most likely need a parent to help you set up your shop. People always love to have trinkets to express who they are, so why not help them express themselves?
If you aren’t interested in art you could care for babies. Babysitting might be gross but if you love those little fireballs of new life then ask around for some babysitting gigs. I know many teenagers who babysit who have mixed feelings, so, if you like kids, this job is for you! You could ask parents, and classmates, or ask around your neighborhood for some exhausted parents in need of a getaway.
Mackenzie Jones, a friend of mine said, “I liked babysitting because it was an opportunity to hang out with friends…”
If you are an animal lover then you can walk a dog! Walk them, feed them, and pat their head, dogs are pretty cute, but just be ready to clean some throw-up off a carpet or repair a broken vase! Ask if they are good around strangers though so you don’t get your hand bitten off!
What about plants? I remember my old neighbor’s house looked like a jungle, with greenery around every corner, and on every shelf. Caring for plants is very easy and mostly low maintenance, if you have a green thumb that is. You have to water them correctly and adhere to their needs, some plants need more care than others, so be sure to ask!
Mackenzie Jones also house and pet sat before, “I house and pet watch for my grandparents a lot. My most recent was when they went to Durango. I walked the dog, fed him, gave him a bath, cleaned the house, wash dishes, all the fun stuff.”
Lastly, you can Doordash, if you live near some stores, have a phone, and hopefully a way of transportation! It is a very easy way to make some money, pick up food, and items from a shopping list, etc. Then drop it off, but service with a smile! Because tips are important to making money.
My cousin Colin Beck door Dashed before in high school; these were his thoughts, “So for my job door-dashing, I had to move around a lot of the time obviously, but you had to be prepared for a lot of things. There was a lot of like planning that you would not think would go into door-dashing but there was… For the most part it was a lot of driving around, picking up food… as for did I like that job, I did it was a lot of fun, going in picking up food, it was an easy job for a little nice side hustle… Its a little extra money in your pack pocket, and it’s good driving practice, driving out.”
