As 2024 comes to an end, we are getting more and more excited about the new year. Many of us have traditions and resolutions, and we are getting ready for 2025. To get a glimpse of how others feel we got some students to provide their thoughts and traditions for the new year.
In the U.S. people celebrate by dancing, eating, drinking, and watching or lighting fireworks. In countries like Greece, they hang up onions on their front doors as a symbol of rebirth and on New Years Day, use it on their children’s heads to wake them. And in the Philippines they eat twelve round fruits at midnight and wear polka dots for ‘good luck’, you will usually find many round shapes as it symbolizes prosperity. Many people celebrate the New Year differently; How do you celebrate?
Many students and staff shared their thoughts on the New Year, English teacher Ms. Jennifer Green, who embraces the New Year as a time for reflection and renewal. Green begins each year by purchasing a new planner, transferring important information, and taking the opportunity to look back on the past year. With a strong growth mindset, she strives to be her best for both her family and her students. Green is excited about several milestones in 2025: her upcoming wedding ceremony, her daughter starting kindergarten, and achieving non-probationary teacher status.
Freshman Lailah Lizama brings the new year in with sparkling cider and does the new years countdown. Lailah’s biggest goal for 2025 is to land a job and start saving money for a car. She likes to hangout with her friends and family and she believes resolutions are cherished because it allows her to set goals for herself and the new year brings her new people and a fresh journey.
Senior Jazlynn Moreno celebrates New Year’s by keeping family at the center of her traditions, spending time together and enjoying lively celebrations. She prepares to close an important chapter of her life. With graduation coming up, her biggest goal is to finish her senior year strong, setting the stage for a successful transition into the next phase of her journey. There are many resolutions in the air and we love to celebrate!
As the clock resets, we have a clean slate to grow and reflect on. The air is filled with endless possibilities and dreams. New Years always shows some nostalgia and hope. New beginnings are powerful. We can let go of the past and become the best version of ourselves we can be. The new year reminds us of the beauty of change and growth. Here’s to creating something new and meaningful in 2025!
