Palmer’s diversity in the school calls for a few common language classes. These classes help students in many ways such as learning how to speak in their natural tongue or even just getting better at a language their interested in. Palmers’ language classes are Spanish, Chinese, and French, the teachers are very happy to teach these languages knowing that it can help many students get interested in a language and get better at their home language. Not only that but they have many things that help them see the culture such as celebrating their national holidays, having Spanish dance club, or even taking trips around the world.
Ms. Henson is one of the Spanish teachers she helps many students get interested in the language and teach them how to speak it. She makes her class a comfortable welcoming environment and also likes to give her class fun ways to learn it but at the same time get the students to feel comfortable and social not with just her but with their peers by letting them practice speaking the language with each other or getting in groups to work together. She lets students feel like they belong and not only that but with the students that are struggling she offers them the chance to come during lunch to study. She mentions that the language is extremely helpful to know not just in school but in your daily life too considering that there are many Spanish speakers in the world, and you never know if you’ll need it in the future.
Ms. Sunny is the Chinese teacher. Her legal name is Jiang, Xin. She’s a very nice teacher and tries to make students interested in the language as well. She teaches her students by learning with stories, and with this style of teaching she doesn’t only teach the students but also improve their social skills by helping them to get involved with their peers. She tries to make her students very comfortable in class and make sure they understand the topic; she also offers help during lunch for students that are struggling. She mentions that some students go on trips to different countries, and they even had students go to countries as exchange students for a few weeks to learn a little about other cultures and languages. Overall she is a good teacher with a very welcoming class and she is open for students that would like to join the Chinese language class.
Overall, Palmers language classes are very helpful in learning a new language, getting better at your own language, and helping you be part of a diverse environment. The teachers are very open to new students joining their classes and getting Palmer students involved or interested in the language itself but also trying their best to make good environments for their students so at some point they would feel like they want to learn the language not just because they need to.
