The Palmer Terrors are back in school and Homecoming week is already around the corner! The Homecoming dance will take place on Saturday, September 6th, and there are fun activities all week leading up to it.
The bonfire is on September 2nd from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Erp’s Field. The traditional bonfire dates back to 1928, when it was written into the Terror Legend. It has been off and on for the past century but was taken back up in the last few years and is going strong. Entry to the bonfire is free, so make sure to take advantage of this great opportunity!
Powderpuff will be on the day after, September 3rd, from 7:00 to 8:30 at Garry Berry Stadium. Entry costs 5 dollars. Powderpuff is a Homecoming tradition where junior and senior girls face off in a flag football game, with the boys coaching and replacing the regular cheer team for a fun halftime show. The game theme this year is Sharkboy and Lavagirl, with the juniors as pink lavagirls and the seniors as blue sharkboys. Last year, the game swayed from the norm after the juniors beat the seniors. Can this year’s juniors do the same or will the seniors be victorious two years in a row?
Homecoming court nominations took place on Monday the 25th and the 12-person court was announced on Tuesday. Votes for king and queen will be submitted during eighth period on Friday, September 5th. Before the Homecoming football game that night, Homecoming court will ride from the school to the stadium at 6:10 pm in a Corvette Caravan.
Meanwhile in the Wasson parking lot, a tailgate with food trucks and games will kick off before the game starts on Friday at 6:45 pm at Garry Berry Stadium. The football team with play against Sierra High School, and during halftime Homecoming court will be announced and crowned. The game theme will be Western: Wrangle the Stallions, so be sure to wear your hats and boots to show your Palmer Pride. The Alumni Association will also be handing out T-shirts to the first 150 people to enter the game. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Palmer High School, the home side of the stadium will be on the West side of the stadium instead of the usual East side. This is to take Palmer back to its’ past, when the home side of the stands was originally on the West.
The dance is on Saturday, September 6th from 7:30 to 11:00 in Erp’s Gym. This year’s dance theme is Tangled, so purple decorations and floating lanterns should be expected. Dance tickets will be for sale for 20 dollars in the days before the dance. They will also be available at the door on Saturday night for 25 dollars.
Be sure to show up at all the fun activities happening next week! This is a great way to kick off the year. Happy Homecoming!
