
Science Olympiad is a Palmer club that allows aspiring scientists to do research and excel in their chosen field. Cami Wolkow, a club member, says, “You get with a partner, or individually, and you study a STEM based subject.” Members use their research in a competition at CSU Pueblo. “It’s a really good opportunity to get involved with STEM based research,” she says. “You don’t have to be a super good scientist. The club’s very accepting to anyone.” Science Olympiad meets every other Tuesday at lunch in Mr. Lohmann’s room, room 21.

Crochet Club is a welcoming setting for beginners or experienced crocheters to build community, work on projects, and develop their skills. “Crochet Club is a nonprofit, so its whole goal is to give back to you,” says Taylor Buckley. Crochet Club meets on Thursdays after school from 3:10 to 4:10 in Ms. Shoemaker’s room, room 115.

The Palmer Book Club is a place for those who love to read to meet with likeminded people and discuss a book. They read all kinds of books, says Taylor, and then talk about it. “You’re learning and you also get, like, a small group of people to talk to them about it.” The Book Club meets on Wednesdays and Fridays at lunch in Mrs. Green’s room, room 127.

Art Club is a place for artists to pursue their passions. It includes a variety of art-related activities. “Usually we’re just doing art pieces, but we do competitions sometimes, during the weekends. We go to, like, Red Robin and we paint windows,” says a club member, Izabella. “You don’t have to do competitions,” another member, Rowan, shares.” You can just, you know, do the Red Robin thing or just hang out and paint.” The Art Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch in the art room.

SAGA is a club dedicated to helping students accept themselves and build community. Rebekah, a student representing SAGA at the Club Crawl, says, “SAGA is a place where you can feel safe, especially for LGBTQ+ people.” Despite being a support system for LGBTQ+ students, SAGA is open to anyone who wants a supportive group. SAGA meets on Tuesdays at lunch in Ms. Gunter’s room, room 125.

At Palmer, You Matter is a club focused on suicide awareness and supporting students. Austin Humphrey, the student representing the club, says that the club is important because the stigma surrounding the topic prevents people from talking about it. “This is what the group is about, is trying to make the stigma go away, trying to help our school or our community as a whole, get better.” The At Palmer, You Matter club meets on Tuesdays and Fridays after school and on Wednesdays at lunch in room 123.

At Thespian Troupe #759, also called Masque and Sandal, Palmer thespians support drama club shows, attend ThesCon, and help involve the community in theater. They do workshops and team building as well. “We are a very welcoming community,” says Mercedes, a representative of the Troupe. “You build a lot of team working skills.” Masque and Sandal meets every Thursday in room 129.

Climbing Club is a place for aspiring climbers to gain experience and have fun with a group of like-minded people. Members can climb casually or competitively. The Climbing Club meets at City Rock after school after school on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Ink Society is a creative writing club. Members get to practice different styles of creative writing, get help with scholarships, and do community service such as teaching elementary schoolers about creative writing. Aiyanna Stevens, a club member, says “If you have a lot of creativity and you want to be able to share that with people, I think that this would be a great place for you.” The Ink Society meets on Tuesdays after school in room 127.

Interact Eco is a club that does environmental based service projects and is open to anyone. One project they currently have is the Yard Day, where the club will clean up yard waste around the neighborhood and ask for donations which will go to the Trees of the Future Organization, which supports sustainable farming in Africa. Reagan Kouri, a member, thinks that the club is a good way to get service hours while making a meaningful change in the community. Interact Eco meets Friday at lunch in room 18.

Health Occupation Students of America, or HOSA, is a club for those interesting in the medical field. They prepare for an optional competition in February, and do things such as suture clinics to prepare for going into the medical field. Malia Tantengco says that HOSA is a great way to advance your skills in an area you’re interested in. HOSA meets every Thursday in room 11.

Minecraft Club is for all fans of the game to play, build worlds, and compete to win prizes. Minecraft is a great way to use creativity to build leadership and collaboration skills. Minecraft Club meets for an hour after school on Wednesdays in room 301.

Palmer’s National Honor Society, or NHS, is a service based club. Members get to volunteer at NHS planned events and help give back to the community. “We have a bunch of new events coming up this year,” says Ali Wade. “We’ve got another movie night coming up, a Clash Royale tournament, two movie nights and a clothing drive.” NHS is a fun opportunity to help your community in simple ways. To join NHS, you have to write 300 words and keep your grade above a 3.6 GPA. At the end of the year, juniors and sophomores will receive an invitation to join via email.

Key Club is a community service and leadership club. They plan fun service projects and collaborate on leadership opportunities to make Palmer a better place. “It’s a fun way to get community service hours, volunteer experience, leadership experience, and it looks great on college applications,” says Sara Powell. Key Club meets at lunch on every other Wednesday in room 11.

Chess Club is the perfect space for both aspiring and experienced chess players. They teach beginners to play, play tournaments, and build community. Chess Club is described by Logan as a great way to meet new people, is welcome to everyone, and is a versatile activity that can be played anywhere. Chess Club meets on Wednesdays at lunch in the library.
