Football is a sport that shapes the lives of students and brings our school community together to cheer on our fellow football players. It gives opportunities to young minds to expand on teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, ect. Both on and off the field. Our games are very popular social events that bring the football spirit to friends and families. Our High school football emphasizes the importance of leadership and taking responsibility.
Players and coaches key is to communicate with each other and speak up to one another. Players always reach out to coaches and talk about expectations and goals as a team. “Always have fun,” says sophomore and quarterback Robert Gocha. “Always have an end goal.”
Before going into a game players obviously have a lot to prove to their community. With so much on their minds it’s important that players keep a strong and grounded mindset to achieve goals. “Keep a good spirit” says sophomore and defensive end Jaiden Johnson. “Always protect and support your team.”
It’s also important to recognize that football is one of the most physical contact sports out there and the risk of injury. Players also face pressure to perform well, which can be stressful. The risk of injury is something that Palmer football players and parents grow concerned about because of the dangers of head injuries, broken bones and shoulder injuries. These injuries can be career ending for football players. Three out of four of the football players interviewed expressed concern about the risks of injuries they face.
Palmer High School opened up so many opportunities for its football players. With most of the players planning on carrying on football for a career the coaches have helped prepare the players for a more advanced team in their future. They teach vital life skills and help players achieve goals.
