Terrors, the new year and new semester has arrived! Goal setting is a common way to boost all aspects of your motivation, confidence, and wellbeing.
According to Acacia University, “Goal-setting is important for students as it provides focus and direction, boosts motivation, and enhances time management skills. Additionally, it fosters self-discipline and accountability, contributing to overall personal growth and development.”
Because of these studies showing the importance of desire, let’s see what Palmer’s thinking!
Sophomore Gabi (Gabriana) Simms said this when asked what her biggest personal goal for 2026 is, “I would say figuring out what I want to do after high school, and to start researching how to get into that field and the steps I need to take.”
Setting goals allows students to concentrate on accomplishments within a particular category. Setting goals allows us to learn how to use our time and resources more effectively. Thinking about the goals we set at the beginning of the year allows us to continue persistence in those goals even when life gets tough or too much.
“Junior year is approaching and now is the time to figure out what I want to do,“ Gabi says.
Senior Arabia Todd said this after being asked the same question, “I’ve realized that I can’t heal without loving myself first so I’m trying to do things for the betterment of myself this year.”
Statistics from the The National Library of Medicine show that goal setting can also improve your mental health. Providing focus, a sense of purpose, and control leads to reducing anxiety while also boosting your overall confidence.
“I’d like to start the process of considering what I want, and doing things that make me happy rather than pleasing other people,” Arabia finished.
If you are interested in setting goals to make a change within yourself this year, it’s not too late to attempt to make that change as a student and as a person! For more information, the National Society of Leadership and Success holds a variety of information on how to get started. Let’s go, Palmer Terrors!
