Saint Baldrick’s is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants in the world. If you asked anyone that has participated, it is the day a bunch of them “braved the shave” to stand in solidarity with kids who don’t have a choice in losing their hair due to cancer treatments.
Saint Baldrick’s hope is to conquer kids’ cancer. They do that by focusing on 3 major points. The first is discovery and cures. The primary goal is to fund the most promising research to find cures for all types of childhood cancers. They want to move the survival rate to 100%.
The second is a better quality of life. It’s not just about surviving; it’s about thriving. The third is training the next generation of young doctors and scientists to keep pushing for a cure.
They shave their heads as a fundraiser specially for Kids Cancer. The participants shave in solidarity for the child that loses their hair so they know they’re not alone. They shave for awareness: it’s a conversation starter when people ask why they did that to their head, and they get to tell them about the 175,000 kids diagnosed worldwide every year.
People can participate in numerous ways.
The “Hair-Stays-Put’’ fundraiser: you can join the team and help us hit our goal without touching a single strand of hair. Your advocacy is just as powerful.
The Full Shave: Go bald and be a walking billboard for the cause.
The Hair Donation: If you have natural hair and the length, donate your locks to be made into wigs.
If you are ready to join whether shaving with the team or making a donation visit our team page: Bald Terrors.
The event was Saturday March 14th at Widener field.
